Ken Birks is one of the staff pastors at The Rock of Roseville, where he also functions as an elder, teacher, as well as handling the church accounting. Ken and his wife, Lydia, were founding members of The Rock of Roseville. Prior to this, Ken was the senior pastor of Golden Valley Christian Center, a non-denominational, Spirit-filled church in Roseville for over twelve years.
In February 1997, Ken and Lydia believed the Lord was leading them to resign as senior pastor of their church, which was an outreach of the Abbott Loop Fellowship of Churches ( Anchorage, AK) under the apostleship of Dick Benjamin. Leaders and members agreed the building would only be sold to a ministry that would continue to make a difference for the Kingdom of God. Having known of Francis Anfuso and having great respect for his ministry, and after hearing it was his desire to start a church in the Roseville area, Ken contacted him and gave him first opportunity towards purchasing the building. Plans were made and The Rock purchased the building, holding the first public meeting on October 5, 1997.
Ken’s primary gift is in the area of teaching. He teaches the word of God with passion and balance, with an intense desire to impart a genuine love and appreciation for God’s Word. He is grateful to Dick Benjamin, the founding pastor of Abbott Loop Community Church in Anchorage, who instilled in him a love for God’s Word and a desire to impart it with integrity and carefulness.
Lydia is Pastor Francis’ assistant at The Rock and currently also serves at the front desk. She handles Pastor’s appointments, calendar, emails, and pastoral care concerns. Her passion is also teaching in Rock ‘N Kids and, for several years, she was Director of The Rock Children’s Ministry. She also directs our yearly Rock It! Kid’s Summer Blast ( Vacation Bible School).
Ken and Lydia have been married since 1979 (having met in 1975 at the Charismatic Bible College in Anchorage, AK) and have two adult children, Ben and Keith (currently in the Army in Iraq), as well as a beautiful daughter-in-law, Stefanie, who is waiting in NY for Keith to return home in mid-2007. The Birks’ have also been blessed with many teens and children whom they have been foster or surrogate parents to over the past 18+ years.
As current empty nesters, they also enjoy their two adorable cats, calico Mitzy and tabby Sweepea, who are always waiting on the porch, purring, when they walk the ½ block home from the church office!
